The Thompson barn, so named for the family who owned it prior to Brown Company ownership in 1891. This barn, built in the early part of the 19 th century, measures 121 feet long by 40 feet wide and 25 feet tall and came with 450 acres of land and a farmhouse. The company would house up to 50 horses at any one time at the Brown Farm while having a herd of 900+ work horses that pulled the fallen trees out of the forest at one of their 50 logging camps. Currently, this barn is used for fund raising for the Berlin & Coos County Historical Society by hosting “Barn” sales throughout the summer and contains interesting historical exhibits that people can enjoy while shopping.
